The cost of running a high quality program continues to escalate. In order to keep our cost down, we would like to sponsor a few fundraising events. In the past, we held two Beef & Beer benefits which were successful. However, several key parents who helped with those events have moved on as their sons graduated from the program and I have not been successful in replacing them. A large annual Beef & Beer type of fundraiser would be ideal in helping us offset some of our operating expenses.
In addition to our seasonal operations, 2014 saw the opening of Butch Clemens Field (BCF) which was constructed by and donated to Towamencin Township by the Clemens Family Corporation. While the field has enough fencing to make it operational, additional amenities (dugouts, bullpens, bleachers......) will have to be provided through fundraising. Towamencin Township has approved this field for the installation of lights which would give Towamencin Baseball it's first lighted field.
In researching fields and their design and matching them to the dimensions we have at the CFC field, we have come up with a concept of what our field would ultimately look like when completed. The concept is based on a field in Jordan, Minnesota called the Mini-Met, (after the old Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis). It was constructed in the 1930's under the old Work Progress Administration, (WPA) program. Here is a link to some photos of the field http://www.digitalballparks.com/Minnesota/Jordan.html
At this time, our Township is in no position to fund any of these improvements. I estimate the cost of implementing the full concept with the field, lights, dugouts, bleachers, fencing, scoreboard and snack bar to be approximately $1 million dollars.
Obviously a plan of this sort will have to be done in stages. I am looking for volunteers to serve on a fundraising committee to begin the process of bringing this field to life. If you are interested, please contact Rich Marino.
